The role of Journalism in 2018 is to tell the truth in an unbiased and clear way. After reading editorials from Vermont, Connecticut, and Michigan, the overall message is clear. Donald Trump has strained the country's relationship with free press and now journalists everywhere have been called the enemy of the United States without evidence. Journalists work hard to effectively tell the truth to the public, but now, thanks to Trump's "fake news" accusations, these journalists are put under even more pressure to convey their message clearly and be as unbiased and objective as possible. Many of these editorials say that Donald Trump and his supporters are attempting to undermine a crucial part of America's democracy with hostile accusations that are not based on facts. People in America tend to want the news they watch to fit their own believes even if this leads to a warped and misleading version of the truth. This is why all of these different news organizations are banding together to show that they are fully committed to portraying the truth in all of their news stories. Journalism is under threat in 2018 and now, more than ever, journalists need to create a united front against the corruption that the Trump presidency has lead to in America in order to protect democracy.
ReplyDeleteThe role of Journalism in 2018 is to be the seeker of truth. Good journalism should always be for the good of humanity. After reading the Boston Globe's Call to Action, I read the editorial from the Hartford Courant, the New York Times, and the Darien Times, I noticed that each editorial talked about slightly different topics, but the general theme was strikingly clear: Journalism is under attack. 26% of Americans surveyed believed that the President should have the authority to close news outlets engaged in "bad behavior". As an American, I deeply hope that the majority of people who said they believed this were joking, but I can not be certain. Now more than ever, it is imperative that the Press works for the People. It needs to earn back the trust of the citizens of this great nation, but never refrain from printing stories because it feels that the citizens want something else. Journalists must write about what Americans need to hear, not what they want to hear.
ReplyDeleteI was also shocked by the statistics that were shown in the Boston Globe. It seems that the President, unfortunately, has a larger impact on the opinions of the population than many people are willing to admit. This leads me to believe that the impact of his accusations against the press may have deep repercussions in the future of this country.
DeleteThe Role of Journalism in 2018 is to educate readers across America by providing them with the most accurate, un-altered truth. After reading articles from the Boston Globe, the New York Times, the Hartford Courant, and the San Diego Union Tribune, it is clear that journalist's reputations and reliability is at stake. The attack Donald Trump has launched against the press, calling certain outlets "fake" or "the enemy of the people", is very dangerous. It is essentially censorship and also prevents journalists from doing their job of educating the people. Despite these challenges, journalists in 2018 must continue to keep reporting the most accurate and important news to keep Americans informed and up to date.
ReplyDeleteThe Role of Journalism in 2018 is to present the truth about events both large and small that happen. After reading the Black Voice News, The Anniston Star, and the Hartford Courant I learned that journalism has been under attack forever. But journalist make sacrifices to find the truth about stories. Journalist push aside their biases to present the truth about controversial topics including politics. They present facts and tell their findings even if it goes against popular opinions. Journalism today is very important to keeping free speech of Americans because it gives the honest truth about all topics.
ReplyDeleteThe role of journalism in 2018 is to inform readers of the truth in spite of comments made to degrade journalists' reputations. A journalists' role is to report the happy, the sad, the good and the bad, and part of our country is mad that they are doing this truthfully. After reading editorials from Boston Globe, the Long Beach Post, New York Times, and Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror, it shows that without journalists, we would have no idea what the US government is up to. Most of the above sources call themselves "watchdogs" of the government and it's not coincidental that the president is one of those people threatening the press. With Trump calling journalists "the enemy of the people" now in 2018 it is crucial that journalists continue writing the truth, and not letting these insults get in the way of providing the American people what they deserve to know.
ReplyDeleteThe role of journalism in 2018 is to report accurate and enlightening stories that the journalist feels the public should know about. After reading editorials from the Boston Globe, the Hartford Courant, the Fayetteville Observer, and Moscow-Pullman Daily News, it needs to be understood that journalist's are people too and are people who know their community relies on them for accurate news. While reading theses editorials I could clearly see that a journalist does not seek to spread 'fake' news in any way because that is against there beliefs and why they became journalists. Moscow-Pullman Daily News says, "Each of us got into this trade for different reasons, and all would agree that, without the truth, we won't get to where we need to go. That's journalism - truth". It is common sense to journalist to know they need to report accurate news despite their beliefs. Presented by the Hartford Current, a journalist does their job "because words matter, truth matters. Because a story can change a life". These editorials are arguing that free press is essential to America being defined as a democratic nation and people depend on it. The Fayetteville Observer argues against Trump saying journalist are "the enemy of the people" with, "Newspapers deal in fact. We have to — if we lose our credibility, we go out of business". This statement is so true about what a journalist job is and even if one journalist reports a 'fake' or mistaken fact, they are sure to correct it. It needs to be known that journalist's are people too and people make mistakes but in 2018 everyone expects news outlets to be perfect even though that is merely impossible. I totally agree with Sloans stance on how journalist need to continue reporting accurate news to inform the public because that is their role in America in 2018.
ReplyDeleteThe role of journalism in 2018 is one of great importance. The job of the free press is to let people know what is happening whether its in the white house or in Hollywood. The press is counted on to spread unbiased information and facts. Although this may not always be the case, the press is still counted on to check in on the politicians at Capital hill. Like Hugo Black had said, "the press is for the governed, not the governors." This is why the media is counted on to be unbiased because otherwise they are telling people to believe certain things that are wrong and will sway their opinions.
ReplyDeleteThe role of journalism in 2018 is for a journalist to present accurate statements and the whole truth in articles that should be shared to the general population. After reading editorials from Calirfornia, Conneticut, and Florida I have seen a repeating theme throughout every article. Free the press is a big issue in 2018 as the government does not want the general population to know everything that is going on especially with Donald Trump, the press has taken this into their owns hands and made sure to give us the whole truth in articles that may hurt the government but help the citizens of America realize what is going on. When reading the Chronicle news article these very sentences really struck me," Don’t like reports of what’s coming out of the Russian probe? “Fake news,” cries Trump. Don’t want truthful analysis of everything from climate change to economic policy? Fake news." What strikes me the most is even when everything comes out on the news the government is still telling us it is not true and make up there own stories or have even resorted to changed the subject, are they not faking what is going on in the government. The role of journalism in 2018 is to tell us what is going on when no one else will. They are people we can count on to listen and record the truth when no one else is willing to even tell the truth. Despite all the hate and discrimination, the press must keep reporting since it is important to keep the citizens informed and up to date on current events.
ReplyDeleteJournalists role in 2018 is to inform the people what is going on. Not to twist it, but to tell only the truth. Once I read the Boston Globe, New York Times, I thought more about President Trump's claims about "fake news" media. I personally don't believe this is censorship because he isn't saying they can't said what they're saying is fake. Is the media the biggest enemy of the United States, probably not, but I don't believe it is censorship.
